President's Message - October 29, 2007

San Diego Trojans,

The great Yogi Berra once noted, "90% of this game is mental. The other half is physical." I think that just about covers it for our beloved Trojans this year. We have the talent, do we have the desire?

We are the Trojan Family and we're all IN! Homecoming is this weekend and it's time to right the ship and beat up on the Beavers. The Trojan Club of San Diego still has a few seats on the rooter buses so if you need a ride, make a reservation and join the fun.

This Friday, November 2 is our fourth fall football luncheon featuring former USC quarterbacks Rob Preston and Gordon Adams. Rob and Gordon were teammates on the 1978 National Championship team and backed up All-American Paul McDonald in 1979. They have some insight regarding being on the "best team in the history of college football" and could help us understand living up to high expectations. Remember, that 1979 team had Charles White, Marcus Allen, Anthony Munoz, Brad Budde, Ronnie Lott and Paul McDonald among its future NFLers. It will be a fun time so call now and make reservations. As with the buses, all the information you need will be on the home page.

Look for our booth at Homecoming between Tommy Trojan and the bookstore and stop by and say hi. Then wear Cardinal to the game and bring your Trojan spirit. The team needs our support.

Fight On! Beat the Beavers!

President's Message - October 22, 2007

San Diego Trojans,

Any win, especially a shutout, is a good win against the Irish. Even if this is the worst, most inept Notre Dame team in anyone's memory it's still the Irish and it's still AT South Bend. Bring on the Ducks!

The Trojan Club will be meeting at the Bullpen in Encinitas to watch the Oregon game. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. So, make plans to join us for lunch, libations, laughs, and a thorough licking of the Ducks. We'll have TCSD merchandise and a raffle, so bring a couple extra bucks.

Make plans to attend our next football luncheon which will be November 2 at the Bayview Restaurant on the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Our guest speakers will be Gordon Adams and Rob Preston. Gordon and Rob were highly recruited local quarterbacks who had the pleasure of playing behind All-American Paul McDonald. Do we have a quarterback controversy? How does a coach keep all the "nuggets" happy when there is only one ball and eleven guys on the field. Gordon and Rob can tell us what it's like and give us their take on our first eight games. Rob is also this year's president of the Trojan Football Alumni Club.

All the information you need to make reservations is on the home page of this website. Make your reservations today!

The Irish are old news. Fight On! Beat the Ducks!

President's Message (10/14/07)

October 14, 2007

San Diego Trojans,

Many thanks to Tom Kelly and Craig Fertig for their entertaining and enlightening visit with us last Friday at our monthly football luncheon. It was a real trip down memory lane and I’m sure that the 100+ San Diego Trojans enjoyed being in the presence of two legends.

I’d like to thank Trojan Bill Dodds and the Hotel del Coronado for hosting Tom and Craig and for helping make this visit as special for them as it was for all of us in attendance.

Now it’s time for Notre Dame and let’s hope that our beloved Trojans get stitched up and administer a vicious beating on the hapless Irish. To all heading to Chicago and South Bend, have fun and bring us a victory.

The Trojan Club of San Diego will gather to watch the USC-Notre Dame game at the Bullpen in Encinitas and kick-off is 12:30 p.m.

Our next football luncheon will be November 2nd featuring former quarterbacks Gordon Adams and Rob Preston. Make plans to join us as we’ll have played ND and Oregon and we should know by then whether this team will turn out to be the real deal or not.

Finally, our Girls Tennis Team will be in San Diego from the 17th through the 20th. If you’re anywhere near the Barnes Tennis Center in Ocean Beach drop by and give them your support.

Fight On! Beat the Irish!

President's Message (10/8/07)

October 8, 2007

San Diego Trojans,

You can't win 'em all, so the next winning streak starts this Saturday against the Mildcats.

But, Friday is our big luncheon with Trojan legends Tom Kelly and Craig Fertig. Please make your reservations soon as we want to secure the best room at the Bayview Restaurant and get an accurate head count. This is going to be a very special day so I hope all San Diego Trojans will make an effort to attend. Details for reservations are on the front page of this website.

If you're going to the Arizona game don't forget that we have two party buses and there's always room for more! Food, drink, fun, and football and leave the driving to the professionals.

Two upcoming events for your Trojan calendar: The Trojan Family will be gathering at the Bullpen in Encinitas to watch the USC-Notre Dame game on October 20th and that same weekend the USC Womens Tennis Team will be playing in San Diego.

Now is the time to rally around our Trojans as the Pac 10 championship is still in play and even the National Championship, if we get some breaks.

Your Trojan Club of San Diego will continue to provide the opportunities for Trojans to get together and support our beloved University and its teams.

Fight On! Beat the Mildcats!

President's Message (10/1/07)

October 1, 2007

San Diego Trojans,

Yikes! No one said going undefeated was going to be easy! Props to our Mighty Trojans for beating UW despite playing one of the worst games I’ve seen in years. Hopefully, they got a year’s worth of miscues out of their system in that one game.

Your Trojan Club of San Diego has lots going on in our efforts to give you a vehicle to support the USC Trojans. We are running two buses to both the Stanford and Arizona games. All the information you need to make a reservation is on this website.

And, we have a very special luncheon on October 12 at the Bayview Restaurant starring the legendary voice of the Trojans, Tom Kelly, and his former broadcast partner and Trojan great Craig Fertig. Tom will be bringing his brand new book on Trojan football, so bring an extra $20 and lots of questions for our guests. Again, all the information you need to make reservations is right on the home page of this website.

Finally, thanks to all the Trojans who came out to the Bullpen in Encinitas last Saturday night to scream at the TV sets and help bring home a victory.

So, that’s it, something for everyone; lunches with our Trojan heroes, buses to the games, and viewing parties with like-minded Trojan fans. Stay connected to USC and the Trojan Club of San Diego.

Fight On! Beat the Indians, er, The Farm!
