President's Message (8/28/07)

August 28, 2007

Last Friday Ninety-five San Diego Trojans were treated to a wonderful afternoon of food, fun, and football talk with the Voice of the Trojans, Pete Arbogast.

The first of Trojan Club of San Diego’s five fall football luncheons was held August 24 at the Bayview Restaurant on MCRD. The overflow crowd got the up close and personal observations on this year’s team from the man who will call every play of this exciting season. This team is so deep and so talented that we went over an hour of talk and Q&A and NEVER mentioned Keith Rivers or Brian Cushing!

Bring on the Vandals!

I am pleased to confirm the rest of our luncheon line-up. Please make plans to join us as we’ve put together a terrific series of speakers to enlighten and amuse the San Diego Trojan faithful.
Bill Cunerty will join us on September 21, the Friday before the Washington State game. Bill played at USC under John McKay and just recently retired as head coach of Saddleback JC. Bill is the only head coach to win multiple state championships in two sports as he lead Saddleback’s football AND golf teams. For years he has run a football camp that prepares athletes for the NFL combine and also current players for their upcoming college seasons. Bill’s a terrific Xs & Os guy and he comes to us right after the Nebraska game so we should have some idea of how good we are.

October 12 will be a special luncheon, as we will be joined by two legendary Trojans, Tom Kelly and Craig Fertig. This is the week before USC travels to Notre Dame so the stories and reminisces will be flying. With luck, Tom will have copies of his new book we can buy and have signed.

On November 2 we will welcome Rob Preston and Gordon Adams. These two five-star quarterbacks will tell us how it is to be “The Man” and then end up behind a two-time all-American and how one stays motivated and ready. This insight will be key for us to understand the current dynamic on a stacked Trojan team.

The great John “JJ” Jackson is our traditional “closer.” On November 30 we’ll be looking towards UCLA, reviewing the season, and planning for a bowl game. It’s always a great crowd and a great time.

You’re reading this, so you’re on the website and that’s the place to be for up-to-date information on all our activities and events. I want to thank everyone who comes to our events and helps keep the Trojan Family and spirit alive and well in San Diego.

Fight On!
