President's Message

A note to share from some proud parents to our past president Ray Weber:

We don't know if you are still involved with the Trojan Club, but if you are, we'd like to just update you and the committee on how one of the recipients has fared since graduating from USC in 03. Geoff Talley, our son, received his degree in Cinema-TV and went on to work for a talent agency, and as an assistant to a reality TV producer after some very lowly "grunt work" jobs for several film companies. It was tough, but he kept struggling! Over a year ago he was hired by the NFL Network and began to thrive. When NFL.com began, he was among the first "preditors" (producer/editors) hired there. Now he has had the privilege of going to the combines twice, and the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl each once.. He has gotten to talk with and interview numerous players and coaches. It's a guy's job to go to work and sit and watch football! Then he gets to edit and produce the video clips that we can watch on the internet. He is finally getting to edit and produce which is what he wanted to do since he was about 8 years old!
If you are no longer involved with the Trojan Club, perhaps you know who you could pass this message on to so that the group as it exists today can see how one young man has turned out! As you can probably tell, we are pretty proud parents!

Sincerely,

Jim and Tina Talley

Hello Trojan Volleyball Fans!
We had a great weekend defeating both #3 Stanford and Pacific in three sets each night.

We began the week at #6 in the AVCA Coaches Poll and expect to move up this week.

This week we have one match….Friday, January 30 - 7pm at Pepperdine. Pepp was #4 in the polls last week and should move up this week also. They are 4-0 overall and 3-1 in MPSF play. We are 5-1 and 2-0.

We hope to see you at Firestone Fieldhouse on Friday!

Don't forget that it's still basketball season. If you're anywhere near downtown on February 4th come by the Tilted Kilt at 7:30 p.m. for the USC @ UCLA game.

President's Message

San Diego Trojans,

97-0 in the last two games. Not too bad! Great crowds of Trojans at all our away game viewing venues, and special thanks to Alan Sliwa of XX 1090 Sports Radio for all the giveaways and other fun at the PB Bar & Grill.

Next week's game is a 7:00 p.m. kick-off so make it date night and join us at the PB Bar & Grill, Del Mar Marriott, or the Bullpen in Encinitas for USC vs. Arizona.

It's been a good fall for all USC sports teams as the men's water polo team is #1 in the nation and women's soccer and volleyball are Top 10 in their respective sports.

Finally, the Trojan Club of San Diego will host Trojan Legend Bob Klein at our luncheon on November 7.

You're at the website, so all the information is here! Register and be part of the fun.

Fight On! Beat the Mildcats!

Craig Fertig (1942-2008) RIP

San Diego Trojans and Friends,

The Trojan Family, and especially the Trojan Club of San Diego, lost a great one yesterday. Craig Fertig passed away in Newport Beach and the USC community is mourning one of it's brightest stars.

Everyone knows of the Fertig to Rod Sherman pass in the last minute of the 1964 USC-Notre Dame game that brought USC back from a 17-0 halftime deficit to a 20-17 victory.

Craig's association with USC spanned over 50 years as a player, coach, administrator, and TV analyst. His association with the Trojan Club of San Diego was a treasure.

Coach Fertig would come down whenever we asked and he would regale us with stories of his career, his association with John McKay, and his observations on the football program. He would spend his allotted time with the organized program and then adjourn to the closest wine emporium with all those who wanted more, and hours later the stories would have to stop. He is personally responsible for helping us raise thousands of dollars that we contributed back to the athletic department to all help our teams strive for excellance.

I got to visit with the Coach for the last time at his normal tailgate spot before the Ohio State game. That will be one of the fond memories I take with me. I consider my life blessed to have the honor of calling Coach Fertig my friend.

Please keep the Fertig family, and the lovely and gracious Margaret O'Connor, in your thoughts and prayers. And, I know he would want us all to...

Fight On! and, Beat the Sun Devils!

Rest in Peace Coach.

President's Message

San Diego Trojans,

Well you can't win them all! Of course, you don't need to stink up the gym either. Yikes! Who were those imposters up at Covallis and what have they done with our Trojan Football team?

But, hey, Women's Volleyball, Women's Soccer, and Men's Water Polo are doing great! So's the football team actually, just one little hiccup.

We have buses available for the October 4 game against Oregon and the October 11 game against ASU. Call Dorothy McRann at 619-698-2330 to make reservations. We are forced, because of liability issues, to make the buses a BYOB situation if you want adult beverages. We'll provide plenty of soft drinks and water, but booze from the Trojan Club is a no-no.

And, don't forget to make your reservations for our next Trojan Club luncheon featuring Ben Malcomson, OnLine Media Director for the USC football team and a former walk-on and DT sports reporter. Call Ray Weber at 619-238-6216 or 619-282-3106. My apologies to our Jewish Trojan Family members because I scheduled this event on Yom Kippur. I didn't know it at the time and we were unable to re-schedule.
