President's Message

San Diego Trojans,

A lot's been going on down here with the extended Trojan Family. We had 75 join wide receivers coach John Morton for our annual spring position coach's dinner. And, then three days later another 90-100 greeted Dr. Art Bartner at the USC Club's Connection Dinner.

The Trojan Track and Field teams were down for the UCSD Invitational and our women's water polo team has moved through to the NCAA tournament with their second place finish at the MPSF finals held out at SDSU.

Your Trojan Club is sponsoring a day at Dedeaux Field on May 17 to see USC play ASU in baseball. Road Trip! Tickets are $15 if you drive and $50 if we do. You can find information on how you can participate in the calendar section of this website.

Pete Carroll and Tim Floyd are coming to town! June 4 at the Marriott Hotel & Marina downtown. If you DIDN'T get an invitation please call the athletic department at 213-740-4155 to make your reservations.

Finally, if you want some Trojan fellowship and fun in the sun please join us at our annual water station at the Rock & Roll Marathon on June 1. You do need to sign up, so go to rnrmarathon.com and find the volunteer section and sign up with the Trojan Club.

That's it for now, except, Fight On! Beat the Cavaliers!

President's Message

San Diego Trojans,

Our big spring dinner with wide receivers coach John Morton is coming up on Monday, April 21st at 5:30 p.m. Call Ray Weber at 619-238-6216 to make reservations. This is going to be great fun. Coach Morton came to us last year after being on the staff only for spring practice. We had to tell him who the players were! Not this year! The Huddle will be on the 19th and we get Coach Morton on the 21st. Call now to make reservations.

It was a great day on the bay yesterday for the San Diego Crew Classic. USC's women's team came up just short in every one of their races. Three second places! Put it on your calendar for next year and join us at the team tent for race viewing and barbequing. It's all the fun you can possibly have.

Next up after the Coach Morton Dinner will be the road trip to Dedeaux Field for baseball on Saturday, May 17. The tickets are $15 or $50 including riding the famous TCSD rooter bus.

Finally, congratulations to my beloved volleyball team for coming up big this last week and qualifying for the MPSF tournament. They came back from two games down to #5 Pepperdine and guaranteed themselves a spot in the tourney. They're peaking at just the right time.

Fight On! Beat the Cavaliers!

President's Message

Who needs basketball? Spring football started today!

Actually, congratulations to the basketball team. They may have been "one and done" in the NCAA's, but OJ Mayo to the contrary notwithstanding, I think they over-achieved given that they had no bench and lost a couple of good ones to the NBA last year. So, congratulations and thank you from your friends in San Diego.

Just a reminder that we've got lots coming up in the next couple of months. The San Diego Crew Classic is April 5/6 all day long on Mission Bay. Head to Crown Point for the best viewing and join the Trojan Club and the crew teams at their barbeque. We're buying!

April 21 is our Spring Dinner with Wide Recievers Coach John Morton. All the information is on the website. The NEW website! www.trojanclubofsandiego.com

Speaking of the new website, it's meant to be interactive so please join up and enjoy the whole website. Many thanks to Travis Walton of The Connection Center for making this happen for us.

Finally, mark your calendars for the Pete Carroll/Tim Floyd Dinner on June 4. And, if you want to have some fun, come out for the Trojan water station at mile 19.5 of the Rock & Roll Marathon on June 1.

Spring football started today and all is right in the world.

Fight On! Beat the Cavaliers!

President's Message

San Diego Trojans,

We've got a busy springtime. Our basketball team is starting its run in the NCAAs, spring football starts next week, and your Trojan Club is gearing up.

First, USC opens against Kansas State in the first round of March Madness this Thursday. If you want to watch the game with your fellow Trojans come and join Trojan Great Monroe Nash at the home of the Trojan Club of San Diego, the Ramada Inn & Conference Center. 5550 Kearny Mesa Road. Clairemont Mesa Blvd. at the 163. Tip-off is at 4:10 p.m.

Next up you're all invited for a day in the sun at the San Diego Crew Classic Sunday, April 6. It's bright and early in the morning, but we've invited the Trojan Marching Band down to help root on our mens and ladies crew teams.

April 21 brings our annual Spring Dinner with wide receiver coach John Morton. It will be at the Ramada Inn starting at 5:30 p.m. Make reservations through our new website at www.trojanclubofsandiego.com.

Speaking of the new website, it's all up-to-date in the calendar section. So, please check it out for all the USC teams that are visiting San Diego. And, mark YOUR calendars, the coaches are coming! Pete Carroll and Tim Floyd will be down here on June 4.

Finally, on a personal note, I had a blast at the USC Alumni Volleyball game last Saturday at Galen Center. Coach Ferguson, Coach Holland, and all the players and fellow alums made it another day to remember. Galen is a long way from the old North Gym! I will always be the oldest one on the floor as I played on the first NCAA team, but everyone indulged the Old Guy and I want to thank them all.

Fight On! Beat the Wildcats!

President's Message

San Diego Trojans,

As I write this our basketball team is starting the stretch run to March Madness. Beat the Ducks! The Trojan Club of San Diego's bus to the game against Oregon State is this Saturday, the 23rd. Hope you're already booked on it.

The Trojan Family lost two great ones recently and we had the chance to celebrate the lives of Harry Frels and Marge (Mrs. Herb) Klein. A big "Fight On!" for two lives well led! All San Diego Trojans were blessed by their presence in our lives. Our prayers are with Dorothy and Herb in this time of their loss.

We'll be gathering at the Ramada Inn in Kearny Mesa on February 28th for the USC vs Arizona basketball game. Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m., please join us.

And, don't forget the San Diego Crew Classic on April 6th on Mission Bay. It's a great day in the sun and we're bringing down the Trojan Marching Band to help root our teams to victory.

Keep checking this website as we have lots of events coming up in the next couple of months, culminating in Pete Carroll's annual visit to San Diego.

Fight On!

President's Message

We had a great turnout last week for our luncheon with Brandon Hancock and Darrell Rideaux. Many thanks to the Lads and to all who joined us at our new "official" home, The Ramada Inn & Conference Center in Kearny Mesa.

Brandon and Darrell showed a video of most of our verballed recruits for 2008. It looks like a studly group and that we've filled many areas of need, mostly on the lines.

This Saturday night, February 2nd, my beloved volleyball team comes to town to play a match against UCSD. (For those who don't know, I played on USC's first two NCAA VB teams in 1970-71. Seems like just yesterday!) The match starts at 7:00 p.m. at RIMAC Center on the UCSD campus. It should be a fun way to spend Super Bowl Eve so if you're looking for a cheap date, come on over.

Ray Weber and the basketball fans have sold out all 71 of our tickets for the USC vs. Oregon State game on February 23. There's still room on the bus, but not much. For your viewing pleasure, we'll be hosting the party for the USC @ Arizona game on February 28 at the Ramada Inn. Keep checking the website for details.

Upcoming events include the Crew Classic on April 6, a position coach's dinner in late March or April, and the Rock & Roll Marathon water station. Two social events and one informational event, and we just keep trying to come up with events that will amuse and inform you and keep the Trojan Family alive and well in San Diego.

President's Message

The Trojans are on a roll! Down go the gutty little bruins! 72-63! Congratulations to the basketball team. So much for the big news, now on to the local happenings.

Brandon Hancock and Darrell Rideaux are coming to town. Our luncheon is this Thursday, 11:30 - 1:30 at the Ramada Inn & Conference Center at 5550 Kearny Mesa Rd in Kearny Mesa, right off the 163 at Clairemont Mesa Drive. You can still make reservations (see our homepage) and join us. Do you think we'll have much to talk about? Recruiting? Letter of Intent Day? The 2007 season and Rose Bowl? 2008? Dr. Chow? It's going to be fun and informative, so be there!

Men's volleyball will be in town to play UCSD on February 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at RIMAC Center on the UCSD campus. This is my sport (I played on the first two NCAA teams in 1970 & 1971) and I'd like to see a lot of Cardinal & Gold support our our up and coming team.

This year's road trip to Galen for basketball is almost sold out. If you're interested in joining us on February 23 for the game agains Oregon State please let us know. Again, the information or the link is on the homepage (Do you see a recurring theme here? Check the website often!).

For great Trojan Family fun mark your calendars for Sunday, April 6th, and come spend a day at Mission Bay for the annual Crew Classic. There will be a team tent, food, and The USC Marching Band. Come and lend your support and have a fun day in the sun.

Keeping checking the website as we are in the process of scheduling our Spring Football Dinner with a position coach. The exact date is subject to the coach's schedule, but look toward the end of March.

That's it for now. Keep checking the website for all our upcoming events. See you Thursday. Fight On! Beat the Cavaliers!
